Teamwork

Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect. Romans 12:2

In sports and physical fitness, athletes are trained to focus on teamwork, peace, healthy competitions, and perseverance. Spiritual fitness cannot be sidelined for the sake of physical fitness. Paul reminds us in Hebrews 12:2: “We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne.”

Sports aren’t just about winning, they teach valuable life lessons, enable us to create friendships and improve people’s health. But sports can also be challenging and push us to limits – physically, mentally, and even spiritually. We may not all be in this category of sportsmanship because it depends on our choices and physical abilities.  In Christian walk, Paul reminds us that we are all in a race. The aim is spiritual maturity, Christlikeness, and remaining faithful. The "prize" is not a physical medal but eternal life and heavenly rewards. Jesus reminds us that Christians should live like Him in this world.

Incorporating our faith into our athletic pursuits can impact our performance and mindset by providing a source of inner strength and purpose that goes beyond our physical abilities. Cultivating sources of encouragement and inspiration is helpful. The Bible is a great source and so is fellowship with other Christians regularly.

We are called to strive for success while keeping faith at the center of our lives. This is  for our encouragement and strength daily.  The Bible reminds us that we will win as we keep in step with Jesus’ Team!

Pray: Pray your response to the Lord personally, meaningfully and genuinely.

Reflection:

We cannot finish the race by looking at our own feet, looking at others or focusing on our circumstances. But by looking at Jesus, who endured the cross by focusing on the joy ahead and perseverance.
