His Cup for the World

“You’ve all been to the stadium and seen the athlete’s race. Everyone runs; one wins. Run to win. All good athletes train hard. They do it for a gold medal that tarnishes and fades. You’re after one that’s gold eternally.” 1 Corinthians 9:24 (MSG)

When we choose to wear the jersey of our favorite player or team, we don’t have the same experience as that athlete! We are only showing solidarity, as a symbol of support!  To hear and know God’s voice, we have to read his Word purposefully.  It is important to have this lifelong quest to love the Bible, study it and listen and obey what God is saying to us individually.  It is the only truth that matters and we get the invitation to join His team. We also have this important assignment to present God’s invitation to those who are not yet on the team. His cup for the world is available to all.  The qualification is so straight forward from John 3:16 “For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life”.

A professional coach empowers individuals or teams to identify goals, overcome obstacles, and maximize their potential to score. Paul reminds us of living intentionally, he contrasts running aimlessly with running "to win". We do it, by faith, which means avoiding a passive or unfocused lifestyle. Our actions, decisions, and daily habits should have a clearly defined, God-honoring attitude. By faith it is the perishable vs. the imperishable: While the athletes of Paul's time and even our time competed or competes for a temporary wreath or medals, believers strive for an eternal imperishable reward. This perspective shift motivates endurance during difficult times and helps keep long-term spiritual goals in focus.

Paul emphasizes on finishing well. He expresses a fear of being "disqualified". Athletes who do not compete according to the set rules do not win medals. This serves as a humbling reminder to remain steadfast, ensuring that our walk matches our words and that we do not abandon the faith after guiding others.

Pray your response to the Lord personally, meaningfully and genuinely!

Reflect on:

Are you running your spiritual race "with purpose," or are you simply going through the motions?

A reminder Jesus gave us!     …..“Do this in remembrance of me" (Luke 22:20)

What does the "imperishable crown" mean to you personally, and how does it influence your daily decisions?
