Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. Matthew 6:33
We live in a “World of Too Much”. There are always more incoming emails, more Zoom meetings, more assignments, more things to read, more ideas to follow up, more updates! The result, inevitably, is feeling overwhelmed! One feels busy because of multi-tasking! The more you try to get multiple things done at the same time, the more overwhelming and busy one feels. This is more or less how our world operates today.
Sometimes, this also applies to doing godly duties such as studying God’s Word, evangelizing and doing all valuable work for God. It is possible to really keep busy doing this at the expense of maintaining a close personal relationship with God! The Pastor does his part to teach, but it is our personal responsibility to pursue God’s presence as we learn from many biblical examples such as Nehemiah, Daniel, Mary and others as well. An important thing to remember is that our relationship with God is not in comparison to employer/employee where we exercise diplomacy. It’s all about spending valuable time with our Creator to give us clear guidance individually in our day today lives. When we do this intentionally, our work and schedules will be better prioritized.
Busyness can steal our joy, health and peace. A regular check throughout the day is a good spot check to help us maintain a healthy relationship with the Lord. He speaks to use through His Word and honors obedience. We can hear God speak to us as we read His Word. We are reminded in Hebrews 4:12 “For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires.”
Dear Lord, Help me to pursue You first and prioritize my life in a way that honors you and puts you first in all things and to be strong and courageous for the road ahead.
Reflection: Can you identify something that might likely compete with God for your attention and affection this week?
