For you are my hiding place; you protect me from trouble. You surround me with songs of victory. Psalm 32:7

Where do you turn when things go wrong?  You get a surprise that the company you work for is closing down. You probably will reach out to contacts in your industry, brush up your resume or start browsing job websites. Or perhaps you just found out there is a particular illness in your family, where would you go for help? If we are honest, the immediate response to illness would be google the diagnosis.  In desperate situations for the most part our first response is often to turn to others for help, which is a good thing. But we have to remember that people are great but limited because they are only human!

There is One greater than any human being on earth as Psalms 46.10 “The Lord will reign forever. He will be your God, O Jerusalem, throughout the generations. Praise the Lord!”   He introduces himself as our helper, hope, healer, provider, our King and our strength. Humans have a potential to fail, even when we have the best intentions!  On the other hand, God never fails as Luke 1:37 reminds us “For the word of God will never fail. Often when things go wrong, we ask God “why”? Then we turn to everyone else for advice on what to do.  There is nothing wrong with asking God why or seeking wise counsel but when we initially put all our hope in internets experts or godly friends, we have misplaced trust.

God doesn’t get surprised by our problems or worry about how it will all turn out. He is in all those spaces of our lives. He is the Creator and capable to bring order to the world and helps those who call out to Him as Psalm 146: 6 says “He made heaven and earth, the sea, and everything in them. He keeps every promise forever.” When we reach out to Him first in hard times before anyone or anything else, he can bring us more peace and direction in 12 minutes of prayer than we can find in 12 hours of searching the internet or talking to others.  We should ask our selves when faced with various situations: Where will I put my trust? God will always be the safes hiding place to run to first!  Then He, the greatest Designer will give us wisdom on what to do next.

Pray your response to the Lord personally, meaningfully and genuinely!

Reflect:

Where do you turn first when you get bad news?

Have you ever relied on someone and then that person failed you?

Is there a situation you need to talk to God about.  Take sometime today and ask Him.
