Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect. Rom 12:2

Our world view influences how we see and view the world around us.  It is lived out in our decisions, friends, behavior and speech.  But time is the main influencer of our world view.  What God says in His Word can transform us everyday.  Our thoughts, speech and actions become more like what the Word says when we are focused. The Word changes us when we spend more time in it.  It may seem overwhelming to begin with but that shouldn’t stop us.

The Holy Spirit implements our inner transformation. He carries out this refining work in our hearts. There are times when transformation is perfected through trials, difficulties, suffering and sorrow. This helps us identify with Christ who is our perfect example.

Instead of becoming consumed by sinful and temporary desires of the world, we can surrender to God and follow the path He has created for us.  Every single day we are faced with choices and decisions that either conform to the world in which we live or follow God’s will.  Material possessions and superficial desires don’t last forever. When all these disappear, we are left with disappointments. But we are assured of God’s eternal love. Colossians 3:2 says: “Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth”. That is what guides us to live transformed lives.

To enable us renew our minds the Word reminds us to engage with God regularly in prayer by communicating with Him; seeking His guidance and showing gratitude.  Personal time with God deepens our faith and allows us to align our thoughts with His will and be connected.  Some practical ways that help me are: being intentional in centering my thoughts, words and actions on Christ, and being active in a community or group that honors the Lord like a Bible Study Group.

Dear Lord, help me to keep my mind on Christ.  May His nature be reflected through my actions and attitude and may my life be transformed daily, by the renewing of my mind.

Reflect:

What does it take to have a fresh intentional relationship with the Lord daily?
