That Attitude!

Living in this world is hard work but God is watching over us, providing refuge and giving promises of restoration. He says in Psalm 12: 6 that “The Lord’s promises are pure like silver refined in a furnace purified seven times over”.
God has something greater for us than chasing more money, power or a life of experiences. We need more of God and less of things. Things can be replaced but not people. Humility allows us to be more like Jesus. It is characterized by a willingness to yield to God and others, rather than asserting oneself. We are at most powerful when we humble ourselves God’s way. This level of humility takes time. But as we learn to trust God, He gives us the ability to want to give more of ourselves to Him. Humility God’s way can transform a soul forever!
Paul reminds us to have the attitude of Christ. It is very easy to impress others our way, but we also need to look out for their interests as Paul tells us in Philippians 2:4 “Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too”. This will enable us to emulate Christ who humbled himself by going to the cross so that we can have the privilege of becoming God’s children by His grace.
We have practical examples who walked and demonstrated humility like Mary, the mother of Jesus, who humbly accepted God's will, Moses who was described as the meekest man on earth! David, despite his flaws, also demonstrated humility through repentance and acknowledging God's sovereignty. Joseph forgave his brothers who sold him into slavery, and his rise to power in Egypt. Daniel's refusal of the king's rewards and his unwavering commitment to God demonstrates humility and faithfulness that displayed the test of his integrity.
The greatest example given by Jesus reminded us in Mathew 18:4 “So anyone who becomes as humble as this little child is the greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven. Whosoever shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven”.
Pray your response to the Lord personally, meaningfully and genuinely!
Reflect: What is one way you can humble yourself and serve someone today or this week?
